The Lincoln Municipal Band (LMB) is Nebraska’s only professional wind ensemble and was formed in 1907, making it Nebraska’s oldest professional music organization.

This award is named in honor of John Shildneck, a long-time conductor of the band. Each year, one talented young musician is chosen by audition to perform as featured soloist with the Lincoln Municipal Band. This soloist receives a cash award and the opportunity to perform with the Lincoln Municipal Band at their annual spring concert at O’Donnell Auditorium on the campus of Nebraska Wesleyan University, and at two concerts presented in Lincoln-area schools.
