(Aug. 17, 2009) -- "Nebraska Concerts" in September has a wide variety of music, with performances by Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra, the Abendmusik Men's Chorus and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Men's Chorus, the Omaha Symphony and the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra. NET Radio's weekly series of fine music performed and recorded on Nebraska's stages airs Sundays at 2 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Sept. 6, Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and conductor Edward Polochick feature pianist Richard Fountain in performances of Liszt's "Totentanz, S. 126" and Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra." Fountain has been LSO's principal keyboard player since 2006. Also on the program is Tchaikovsky's "Suite from Swan Lake," in this performance from last fall. Well-known American choral music is featured on Sunday, Sept. 13, in "An American Ideal," a concert from last season's Abendmusik: Lincoln series. The Abendmusik Men's Chorus, UNL Men's Chorus and the Plymouth Brass perform some of America's most heartfelt patriotic works. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Omaha Symphony performs a concert called "Piano Extravaganza" with three pianists in the finale from their 2007-2008 season. The program includes Mendelssohn's "Concerto No. 1 in G Minor for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 25" performed by Stewart Goodyear; Grieg's "Concerto in A Minor for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 16" performed by Orli Shaham; and Tchaikovsky's "Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 23" performed by Alexander Korsantia. The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra presents two concerts from earlier this year in Lincoln in the final program of the month airing Sunday, Sept. 27. The first one is "Learning from the Master" with guest woodwind performer, composer and arranger Mike Tomaro. The second, with guest drummer Dana Hall, is called "It's Not Rocket Science." "Nebraska Concerts" is broadcast on NET Radio, a service of NET. Dave Hughes is producer and Genevieve Randall is scriptwriter and host. The Omaha Symphony concert was recorded by Clete Baker of Studio B for Classical 90.7, KVNO.
