The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra presents the third concert of its 2008-2009 season, featuring the multi-talented woodwind performer, composer and arranger, Mike Tomaro, plus the 2009 Young Lions All-Star Band. This concert is sponsored by REAMS Sprinkler Supply and Ameritas. The concert will be held Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Cornhusker Marriott, 333 South 13th Street in Lincoln, Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. Priority seating for season ticket holders and Jazz Club members is at 7:00 p.m., with general admission seating beginning at 7:15 p.m. Single admission tickets are $20 for Adults and $10 for Students and may be purchased by contacting the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra business office at (402) 477-8446 or njo@artsincorporated.org. Pro-rated season tickets are also available for purchase. A pre-concert dinner will be held at the Cornhusker Marriott for a cost of $22 per person. For dinner reservations please contact the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra business office. Mike Tomaro has been the Director of Jazz Studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA since 1997. This saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, arranger and educator earned his B.S. degree in Music Education from Duquesne University and his M.A. degree in Saxophone Performance from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Prior to his appointment at Duquesne, he lived in the Washington, D.C. area for seventeen years as a member of the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, a unit of the prestigious "Pershing's Own" U.S. Army Band. While a member of this group, he served as its Enlisted Musical Director and performed for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton as well as heads of state from around the world. He also composed and/or arranged much of the Army Blues repertoire and was featured as a soloist on several of the group's albums and CDs. Young Lions All-Star Band – This all-star student band is an auditioned group comprised of outstanding student musicians from Nebraska and surrounding states. Students under the age of 21 are eligible to audition, and the most promising young musicians are selected to rehearse and perform at the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra’s Learning from the Master concert with their renowned guest artist. The Young Lions All-Star Band is one of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra’s many educational outreach programs. |
