| Friends of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, Swing into Spring! The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra presents the fourth concert of its 2007-2008 series of events featuring the world class trumpet soloist for New York's Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Scott Wendholt, and celebrating the music of the legendary Neal Hefti. The evening's performance will include a number of selections from Hefti including "L’il Darlin’" and "Sure Thing" to the jazz classics "A Night in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli, and "‘Round Midnight" by Cootie Williams and Thelonious Monk. The concert will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1040 P Street in Lincoln, Nebraska at 3:00 p.m. Priority seating for season ticket holders and Jazz Club members is at 2:30 p.m., with general admission seating beginning at 2:45 p.m. Single admission tickets are $20 for Adults, $17 for Seniors and $10 for Students and may be purchased by contacting the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra business office at (402) 477-8446 or njo@artsincorporated.org. Season tickets are also available for purchase. ---------------------------------- Scott Wendholt is an articulate, passionate, and lyrical trumpeter who approaches music with energy and spirit. He communicates to audiences with sincerity and ease. Wendholt is a much in demand artist and has found himself in a variety of settings. He has recorded and/or worked extensively with artists including Kenny Garrett, Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride, Don Braden and Bruce Barth. For Six years, Scott found a home with Vincent Herring's quintet. This highly acclaimed band has recorded three albums, including Folklore-Live At The Village Vanguard. He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Japan with these bands as well as others. To his credit, Scott has been recorded on more than forty CD's. However, he is recognized as a leader as well. His second recording for the Doubletime Jazz label was released in the spring of 2000, following three successful Scott Wendholt offerings on Criss Cross. This new CD has received much favorable press including a 4 star review in Downbeat. The "Big Band Scene" has also sought out this trumpeter for his versatility and formidable powers. His list of credits include: The Carnegie Hall Big Band (lead by Jon Faddis), Maria Schneider's Big Band, the Bob Mintzer Big Band and the Buddy Rich Big Band. He has been recognized and currently has the honor of being included in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly Thad Jones/Mel Lewis) where he follows in Thad's footsteps as a featured soloist in the trumpet section. Wendholt continues to be in demand on the playing scene as well as in the educational arena. Scott is currently on the faculty at SUNY (Purchase) and the Jamey Aebersold summer jazz camps and is in demand as a player/clinician in many colleges and various other learning institutions around the world. ----------------------------------- This concert is sponsored by the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra Board of Directors.
